The screen becomes black blank after Windows XP loads on my Dell laptop. I've read in some forums that it may have something to do with NVIDIA graphics cards, so I updated my graphics card and still nothing. Now reboot normally. Windows automatically reinstalled all of my missing drivers and it worked!!! Do you potentially have more then one system hooked up to the monitor? P.S. Post the Brand & Model numbers of the hardware(Mobo-CPU-RAM-Graphics-PSU) in the original configuration when the problem started. check it out

From what I gather, Quite a few people are having trouble with their output in regards to 7000 cards on gigabyte boards. If so, right click on the monitor square. To do this just make sure your monitor is plugged into whichever video output that lets you see the boot screens and press (F2 on most Dell systems) to enter setup. I'm not sure why this external drive cause the problem, window vista should automatically install the proper driver for that.
