Have you tried adding it as a master on the secondary controller? Then, make sure the SSD is plugged into the first SATA port, and try to go into the BIOS and see if it is recognized as a boot drive. The reason I recommend linux on the second drive is because GRUB must "chainload" the Windows native bootloader, and the windows bootloader always assumes it is on the first drive. I would also consider flashing the BIOS if you're comfortable doing so-just in case this is a known issue that was fixed in an update. accidentally snatched from usb port with my foot and it only shows 500gb now.
