Like the Norwegian blue parrot in Monty Python, it wasn't dead, it was pining (for the right driver). The printer worked on the back, for a while - now it doesn't (drivers are updated, it's the port). This might occur because Windows7 did not detect that the USB audio device was removed and is still trying to send audio to the unplugged device. Use the memory card as you would use any other drive on the computer.
